Welcoming letter addressed to the The First Asia-Pacific Conference on Web Intelligence (WI-2001).On WWW appearing human freedom gets new dimensions and new features: free search, free access, free choice, free spreading of information, scientific ideas and views, free exchange of ideas and opinions. WWW may be called as realization of democratic freedom in the sphere of human spirit. WWW doesn’t stop surprising the humankind by its possibilities to meet more and more wide spectrum of human requirements and at the same time it forms new human quasi-requirements. Human life partly transmits to WWW. One possesses great possibilities in the network: from getting education, earning money to lucky search of one’s helpmate. Let me express hope that numerous aspects of WWW’s success, its different technical and working solutions, the convenient organization of the whole system for using WWW won’t distract the humankind from what WWW was created for. At the same time the answer on the question – what WWW was created for – fills with new contents every moment. WWW is created by the humankind and serves its progress, gives to the humankind possibilities which are haven’t been estimated yet completely. We can’t even outline the scale of these possibilities today. It is known that a well considered list of Conference Topics is the pledge of wide interest, active participation and success of a conference. The organizers of The First Asia-Pacific Conference on Web Intelligence (WI-2001) suggested the Topics Category in its wide, various and deeply differential branches where, as it seems, all the aspects of Web Intelligence are presented. Let us express our gratitude for your idea of organizing the conference on the topics which meet the requirements of those who “live” in WWW and for whom WWW is a part of their lives and an irreplaceable way of living and solving human problems.
